Author´s Purpose

My Reflection
I am learning to identify and describe the author's purpose.  It was easy to figure out that the author was entertaining the reader because she wrote a fairytale and it had some funny parts.  I also read the text carefully. My next learning is to try to identify the author's purpose in other other types of texts.

Interpreting Graphic Features

My Reflection

I am learning to understand information by interpreting graphic features.It was a little tricky because i had to read the text and the cross - section to find information.My next step is to look carefully at the graphic features in other texts. and It helps me to understand.

Extending Vocabulary

My Reflection
I am learning to extend my knowledge of new vocabulary.I can now Identify the meanings of new words.Next I will try to work out the meanings of new vocabulary by reading the rest of the sentence.

Summarising

My Reflection

I am learning to summarise information by choosing the important information in the text.
This learning was tricky because I had to look up the meaning of the new words.
It was helpful having a buddy and the teacher to work with.
My next step is to summarise other texts with less help.

Skimming and Scaning for Information

My Refection

We have been learning to find and Summarise information by skimming and scamming.  Skimming and Scanning are fast reading techniques to help you find ideas or information quickly in a text.  We read a story about White Tailed spiders.  I used Skimming and Scaning to find information.  I found this easy because i never got stuck because the teacher helped me.  My next step is to try and work it out my self.

Suffixes

Reflection I have been learning to understand how suffixes change the meaning of a word.  I found easy because we had a word and added ed or ing. my next step is to remember to put my words in the right place.

My Reflection
I have been learning to find  and summarise information in non-fiction texts.
The best part of this is that I actually learned about some animals and that tuataras can live 50-100 years.
My next step is to bro-ably use better search words when i look for information on the internet.

I have been learning to make connections  to what I read.  I could make a connections to this story because I know what it feels like.  my next steps are to maybe do  better questions.

Extending new vocabulary

Reflection
I have been learning to extending my vocabulary.  It was tricky to use dictionary skills.  I need to work on finding clues in the book to help me make inferences about the meaning.

Nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives.

Reflection 
I am learning to look for nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives.
It was tricky because I didn't know what a noun, verbs and adjectives were.
I need to work on remembering that nouns are a person place or a thing.

I found this hard because it was tricky to describe why we had the features. My next steps are to identify the features and describe their purpose without help from my teacher.

I am learning to make connections with the story and myself.  It was hard to remember what happened to myself when I got hurt.  I am also working on understanding what a connection is.
